What a perfect first session of the new year. Katie and Kellen are anxiously anticipating their first little one, a sweet girl to be called Macy. The time just before and after a baby arrives is genuinely one of the most precious moments in someone’s life. The closeness with your spouse, the miracle of the two of you in one tiny pink bundle, and the inevitable shift of life slowing down just before it all goes too fast.

Katie, Kellen, and I walked and talked through these beautiful fields in the early days of our Pacific Northwest winter, while the sun peeked out from behind the clouds then snuck away again, before giving us the most beautiful gift: a rainbow right above where we stood, a gift for them for their rainbow baby. My excitement knew no bounds, and without even asking, I yelled and pointed, then ran to capture them beneath it. My heart was full and I felt so thankful.
