It's Independence Day 2016

We were craving a small, simple event. Celebrating our country's independence on a Monday, when work comes knocking at the door early the next morning is quite the tease. I should say something about adulthood, parenting, and responsibilities... I forget the rest.

One of our dear friends was home for the holiday for the first time in nearly half a decade, we couldn't miss it. We managed to have a pretty good time by throwing together a last minute BBQ, fireworks, and all the patriotism we could muster.

One of the joys of having a few close friends is that the specifics don't usually matter, you just make it happen with the currently available resources. It took little to no planning, no rush to clean, just a good time together was all that mattered.

The 4th of July was an unseasonably cool day with the potential for rain. No one minded. For some, this holiday is the favorite, the one where we coordinate our outfits in all the red, white, and blue we can dig out without an ounce of shame. A stop at firework alley and we were on our way. We relaxed together before heading out, which seems to be something of a rarity these days. Then as the time to leave rolled around, we hastily packed into the car and headed our to stay up too late and watch the lights in the sky. I sat back and let the boys be boys and enjoyed their show. But goodness, boys sure do scare their mama's!

Happy birthday America.
